LaclauGPT Phase 3: Preliminary and intermediate results

Status: Draft content plan for AI26 Phase 3. This file plans an intermediate-results paper and contains no invented empirical findings. Source roadmap issue: #53 Phase progression: Phase 1 · Phase 2 · Phase 3 · Phase 4 Constraint: Preliminary findings must be clearly separated from hypotheses, interpretation, and speculation.

Abstract

TODO: Summarize the actual empirical scope, implemented methods, validation evidence, intermediate findings, and unresolved limitations.

1. Research questions and empirical scope

TODO: State the questions actually answerable with available Phase 3 data.

2. Datasets and corpora actually available

TODO: Document sources, collection windows, platforms/arenas/countries, languages, inclusion criteria, missingness, and legal/ethical constraints.

3. Implemented methods actually used

TODO: Describe only methods that are operational and used for reported results. TODO: Identify any Phase 2 modules deliberately omitted because they are insufficiently mature.

4. Provenance and traceability

TODO: Explain how outputs link back to source items, model/prompt/codebook versions, transformations, validation decisions, and reproducible snapshots.

5. Validation results

TODO: Report reviewed samples, coding procedures, agreement/reliability where applicable, uncertainty, abstention, and known error rates.

5.1 LLM extraction performance and failure modes

TODO: False positives/negatives, ambiguity, hallucinated relations, quotation/evidence errors, multilingual and multimodal failures, and stability across models/prompts/codebooks.

5.2 Human/LLM agreement and review

TODO: Report acceptance, rejection, revision, disagreement patterns, and the role of human close reading.

6. Preliminary discourse findings

TODO: Report only evidence-supported intermediate findings.

6.1 Signifiers and nodal points

TODO

6.2 Floating and candidate empty signifiers

TODO

6.3 Articulations, equivalence, and difference

TODO

6.4 Demands, identities, antagonisms, and political frontiers

TODO

6.5 Sociotechnical imaginaries

TODO

7. Actor/concept/claim/stance relations

TODO: Report evidence-linked relational findings and uncertainty.

8. Discourse coalitions

TODO: Present coalition structures only where validated and substantively interpretable.

9. SNA/DNA/network results

TODO: Include only mature enough network analyses. TODO: Report construction choices, robustness, missing-data sensitivity, and limits of interpretation.

10. Temporal analysis

TODO: Compare changes over time where the corpus supports it.

11. Cross-arena, cross-platform, and cross-country comparisons

TODO: Include comparisons only where sampling and measurement are sufficiently commensurable.

12. Representative human close readings

TODO: Select source-grounded cases that demonstrate how computational patterns are interpreted, accepted, rejected, or revised by researchers.

13. Figures, tables, and networks

TODO: Inventory publication-ready visual products and link each to reproducible generation steps.

14. Negative, unstable, or null findings

TODO: Record failed hypotheses, unstable clusters, weak proxies, inconsistent extraction, and methods that did not survive validation.

15. Methodological lessons

TODO: Explain what LaclauGPT currently does well, poorly, and only with human intervention.

16. Limitations and open problems

TODO: Sampling, platform access, multilinguality, multimodality, model dependence, missing data, temporal coverage, network inference, and interpretive uncertainty.

17. Concrete requirements for Phase 4

TODO: List data, validation, implementation, and analytical gaps that must be resolved before final synthesis.

References

TODO: Add only sources actually used in the final Phase 3 manuscript.
